The Introduction of the Ruger .22 Automatic in 1949 was the successful beginning of Ruger's legendary
rise as a gun manufacturer. Inmensely popular from the start, it has sold to date over a million
units.
The most popular of this gun's generations is the Mark II, made since the late seventies. Its
distinguishing feature is the bolt release at the top of the left grip panel.

Ruger Mark III
The next generation of the Ruger Mark family is the Mark III. The Mark III was released in 2008 and features a side clip release. This feature makes some of the Mark II grip models incompatible with the Mark III, especially those with a thumbrest; however, the majority of the Mark II grips and designs work with the Mark III as well.
